Hard hitting MMA management and fighting in your pocket

Weekend Warriors MMA is an ambitious blend of fighting sim and sports management that turns the chaos of mixed martial arts into a surprisingly deep sandbox. Built on the engine of a popular wrestling title, it ramps up the intensity with 300 fictional fighters, 5 promotions and 5 weight classes, giving you a huge toy box of brawlers and scenarios to experiment with.

The heart of the game lies in its dual focus: you can climb the ranks as a single fighter or step back and run the show in Promoter mode. As a fighter, you’ll juggle training, contracts and brutal bouts where every strike, takedown and transition can swing the fight. As a promoter, you book cards, craft dream matchups and tweak rules to create anything from realistic 1-on-1 clashes to wild multi-person free-for-alls with up to 10 fighters in the cage.

Controls are surprisingly nuanced once you get past the initial learning curve. Dedicated buttons for strikes, grapples, blocks and taunts, combined with directional inputs, unlock a broad arsenal of stand-up and ground techniques. It really does feel like “human chess” at times, rewarding timing and positioning rather than button-mashing.

Visually, Weekend Warriors MMA is basic and a little rough around the edges, with chunky character models and stiff animations. Sound effects are functional rather than cinematic. However, the sheer volume of content and the freedom to rewrite the entire roster and ruleset overshadow the dated presentation.

Upgrading to the Pro version and Backstage Pass removes restrictions and lets you fully customize all 300 fighters, which will strongly appeal to fans who love tinkering with rosters and fantasy matchmaking.

If you can live with old-school graphics and a busy interface, Weekend Warriors MMA offers a deep, endlessly replayable fighting sandbox that captures the strategy and spectacle of MMA better than many flashier titles.
