Media Bar
Turn your status bar into a powerful media control strip
Media Bar is a cleverly designed tool that transforms the usually static status bar into a dynamic media controller and progress indicator. Instead of reaching for on‑screen controls or pulling down panels, your current track, podcast, or video can be managed with subtle swipes and taps right at the very top of the screen.
The standout feature is the slim progress bar that sits along the status bar (or just beneath it, depending on your preferences). It can be made as thin as a single pixel, color‑coded to show different playback stages, and positioned at the top or bottom. For long podcasts or movies, the ability to see and interpret progress at a glance—green early on, red toward the end—is particularly handy.
Scrubbing is intuitive: swipe left or right across the bar to jump through the timeline, or set fixed jump lengths for quick skips forward or backward. On top of that, Media Bar adds three invisible, fully configurable touch regions that can trigger actions via single tap, double tap, or long press. Mapping common actions like play/pause, forward, backward, or launching a favorite player makes everyday listening noticeably faster and more fluid.
Being in beta, occasional quirks or compatibility issues with some players are possible, and the learning curve for gesture zones might feel fiddly at first. However, once configured, it becomes an unobtrusive layer that feels surprisingly natural.
Overall, Media Bar is a smart, minimalist enhancement for anyone who juggles music, podcasts, or videos while multitasking and wants tighter, thumb‑efficient playback control without cluttering the screen.
