Getaway Shootout
Chaotic physics racing and absurd duels in tiny arenas
Getaway Shootout takes the simple concept of “reach the escape point first” and turns it into a slapstick physics brawl where every jump can end in triumph or total disaster. Instead of smooth running or precise platforming, you’re wrestling with deliberately clumsy movement that makes even a small ledge feel like a daring stunt.
The core idea is straightforward: up to two players race across compact maps toward a getaway spot, grabbing weapons and power-ups along the way. The twist lies in the three-button control scheme. You only jump left, jump right, and trigger your power-up. Movement comes from timing these jumps and rotations, so you’re constantly tumbling, overshooting, and improvising midair. It feels wrong at first, then oddly satisfying once you start to “speak” its weird physics language.
Local multiplayer is where Getaway Shootout shines. Facing a friend on the same device turns every round into a fast, noisy competition, with last-second rockets, shotguns, and grappling hooks deciding the winner. Solo players can still have fun battling the CPU, but the game’s chaotic nature is clearly tuned for couch rivalry.
There’s a generous roster of 20+ characters to unlock, adding a light progression layer. While cosmetic, collecting them keeps you coming back, especially as maps and matchups stay unpredictable.
On the downside, the intentionally awkward controls and random-feeling physics won’t appeal to everyone. Some players may find the learning curve more frustrating than funny, and the lack of online multiplayer limits long-term variety if you often play alone.
Still, if you enjoy quick-fire party games, slapstick physics, and shouting at your friends when you both miss the getaway by inches, Getaway Shootout delivers compact, highly replayable chaos.
