Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic brings one of the most beloved RPGs of all time to your pocket, and impressively, it does so without cutting corners. This is the full KOTOR experience: the same sweeping storyline, branching choices, and rich character development that defined the original, now optimized for touch.

Set thousands of years before the films, KOTOR lets you shape the fate of the galaxy as you walk the fine line between light and dark. Dialogue choices, quest resolutions, and even how you wield the Force all impact your alignment and the story’s outcome. The moral choice system still feels engaging, and the twists in the narrative remain among the most memorable in any Star Wars game.

Gameplay-wise, KOTOR’s hybrid of real-time combat with tactical pause is intact. You can queue up attacks, Force powers, and abilities for your party of up to three characters, chosen from a diverse cast including Twi’leks, Droids, and Wookiees. Over 40 Force powers, from Force Push to Force Lightning, plus customizable lightsabers, offer satisfying progression as you level up.

The touch interface is thoughtfully reworked, with gesture-based camera control and clearly laid-out menus that make inventory, dialogue, and combat management surprisingly comfortable. For purists, full HID controller support recreates the more traditional feel. Performance is generally solid, though the game’s hefty size and occasionally dated textures betray its early-2000s roots.

Exploring iconic locations like Tatooine and Kashyyyk, piloting the Ebon Hawk between eight sizable worlds, and hunting for newly added achievements gives the game strong replay value. If you can accept older visuals and some clunky animations, Star Wars: KOTOR still stands as a deep, story-driven RPG that remains essential for both Star Wars fans and role-playing enthusiasts.
