Copy any on screen text instantly even from locked down apps

Universal Copy is a clever utility designed to solve a daily frustration: not being able to copy text from certain apps, system screens, or images. With a single trigger, it lets you grab almost anything you see on your display and reuse it wherever you like.

The core attraction is its Normal mode, which overlays a selection tool on top of whatever you’re viewing. Whether you’re in social networks, messaging services, streaming platforms, or a browser, Universal Copy detects selectable text and lets you copy it as if the app natively allowed it. It’s fast, intuitive, and feels surprisingly seamless once configured.

For harder cases, Scanner mode uses OCR to pull text out of images and non-selectable interfaces. Support for multiple writing systems – including Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Devanagari – makes it useful for multilingual users or those who frequently translate foreign content. Accuracy is generally good, though highly stylized fonts or cluttered images can still trip it up.

Two standout features are Scroll mode and Harvest mode. Scroll mode lets you capture text across multiple screens in one operation, ideal for long articles or threads. Harvest mode automatically collects useful entities like phone numbers, email addresses, @handles, and hashtags as you browse, turning passive reading into a quick data-gathering session.

Universal Copy integrates smart shortcuts for instant actions such as translate, share, or locate on maps, reducing the constant app switching that usually accompanies copying tasks. The interface is minimal, but first-time users may need a few minutes to understand the different modes and the accessibility permissions required.

Pros:

- Copies text from virtually any screen or image

- Powerful OCR with broad language support

- Scroll and Harvest modes for heavy readers and researchers

Cons:

- OCR can struggle with complex layouts or fancy fonts

- Multiple modes may feel overwhelming at first
