Assistant Trigger: for AirPods fixes two of the biggest headaches when using Apple’s earbuds outside the Apple ecosystem: knowing how much battery you have left and easily summoning your voice assistant. Designed specifically for AirPods and select Beats models, it bridges the gap between Apple hardware and non-Apple devices surprisingly well.

Once configured, the app automatically shows a clean pop-up with the battery levels of both earbuds and the case whenever you open the lid. The information is clear and easy to read, a huge upgrade over guessing whether your AirPods will last through your commute or workout. Support for multiple generations (AirPods 1–3, AirPods Pro 1–2, AirPods Max, and Powerbeats Pro) makes it versatile if you own several pairs.

The star feature is the ability to trigger your voice assistant using native AirPods gestures. A single squeeze on AirPods Pro or AirPods 3, or a double-tap on AirPods 2, can be mapped to your preferred assistant, making it feel much closer to using AirPods with their original ecosystem. The response is snappy and reliable in daily use.

A paid upgrade unlocks more advanced tools, such as a persistent battery indicator in the notification area, in-ear detection for automatic pause and resume, and voice announcements for calls and notifications. These additions turn your earbuds into a much smarter companion, though they may slightly increase battery usage.

Assistant Trigger is not a full replacement for every proprietary feature of AirPods, but for monitoring battery levels and summoning your assistant with a simple gesture, it performs impressively and makes using AirPods on non-Apple devices far more convenient.
