Strategic card battles with the charm of Plants vs Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies Heroes takes the quirky humor and lane-based tension of the original series and rebuilds it as a fast-paced collectible card game. Instead of planting defenses against scripted zombie waves, you’re assembling hero-led decks and battling in tactical, turn-based duels.

You start by choosing a Hero – either a plant or a zombie – each with its own special ability and favored card types. Green Shadow snipes from afar, while Super Brainz leans into bold, up-close aggression. This hero system adds a welcome layer of identity and replay value, encouraging you to experiment with wildly different playstyles.

Deck building is surprisingly deep. With hundreds of cards split across distinct classes, there’s plenty of room for creative combos, from buffing a swarm of inexpensive plants to setting up devastating late-game zombies. The Auto Team-Builder is handy for newcomers, but seasoned players will want to fine-tune every slot to squeeze out maximum synergy.

On the battlefield, the familiar five-lane layout returns, but now every card is a potential surprise. You’ll bluff, react with “trick” cards, and time your hero powers to swing matches at the last second. Real-time PvP is the highlight: matches are snappy, tense, and often come down to a single lane.

Visually, it’s polished and colorful, with expressive animations and the trademark goofy sound design that keeps things light even in ranked play. Progression can feel grindy, and premium packs and bundles lean heavily into free-to-play monetization, which might frustrate competitive players who want to unlock options faster.

Still, for fans of Plants vs. Zombies and card battlers alike, Heroes delivers a rich, strategic experience that’s easy to learn, entertainingly chaotic, and surprisingly deep once you start building specialized decks.
