Modern Combat 5
Relentless FPS action with sharp visuals and class-based warfare
Modern Combat 5 is a fast-paced first-person shooter that delivers a surprisingly complete shooter experience in your pocket. It blends a cinematic solo campaign with a rich suite of competitive modes, all wrapped in high-production visuals and punchy gunplay.
The campaign plays like an interactive action movie, taking you from Tokyo’s neon streets to the canals of Venice in tightly scripted missions. The story is standard “one-man army saves the world” fare, but the set pieces, explosions and constant firefights keep it engaging, especially for short sessions.
Multiplayer is where the game truly shines. You can pick from more than ten distinct classes, each with its own abilities and weapon loadouts, then dive into Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Push the Payload, Free for All, and even a Battle Royale-style mode. Classes level up over time, encouraging specialization and experimentation, and global and squad chat (including voice) make coordinating tactics with friends surprisingly deep.
Controls are fully customizable, letting you tweak button layout, sensitivity and aim assist. Once tuned, movement and shooting feel responsive, and landing headshots is satisfying. The graphics have aged gracefully, with detailed environments and solid animations, while the soundtrack and voice work fit the high-octane tone.
The main drawback is monetization. Progression leans heavily on grinding, with better weapons and upgrades locked behind slow unlock systems and optional purchases. Competitive players may feel pressure to spend to keep up at higher ranks.
Despite this, Modern Combat 5 remains one of the more complete handheld shooters available, especially if you’re looking for a robust mix of solo missions and deep, class-based online warfare.
