Gangstar New Orleans
Gangstar New Orleans delivers chaotic open world crime fun
Gangstar New Orleans is Gameloft’s most ambitious sandbox crime adventure, serving up a compact but bustling take on New Orleans packed with missions, mayhem and style. You play a rising outlaw climbing the criminal food chain across distinct districts, from neon-soaked streets of the French Quarter to rundown slums and eerie bayous.
The core loop mixes third-person shooting, driving and exploration. Story missions push you through shootouts, chases and heists, while side activities and random events keep the city feeling busy. Controls are straightforward, with auto-aim helping during chaotic gunfights, and driving feels pleasantly arcade-like rather than ultra-realistic.
One of the standout features is Turf Wars, an asynchronous GvG mode where you capture and defend districts from rival gangs. It adds a strategic layer and a reason to keep upgrading your gear. Progression is heavily tied to loot: you can collect, fuse and evolve a huge arsenal of weapons and vehicles, alongside extensive character customization options.
Visuals are colorful and stylized, with a fun mix of urban streets, ports and swamps, plus weather and time-of-day effects that help sell the setting. The soundtrack and over-the-top dialogue lean into a B-movie crime vibe that fits the series perfectly.
On the downside, the game leans hard on free-to-play mechanics. Energy timers, multiple currencies and a grind-heavy upgrade system may frustrate players who want to advance quickly without spending. It also requires a stable connection, which can be an issue on the go.
Despite these drawbacks, Gangstar New Orleans remains a lively and generous playground for anyone who enjoys open-world crime games, outrageous action and constant collectibles, all wrapped in a vibrant New Orleans backdrop.
