Dan the Man: Action Platformer
Retro beat-em-up platforming with sharp humor and co-op chaos
Dan the Man: Action Platformer is a love letter to classic side‑scrolling brawlers, wrapped in sharp comedic writing and modern progression systems. It feels like a Saturday‑morning cartoon crossed with an old-school arcade machine.
At its core, this is a punchy 2D platformer where you run, jump and unleash combos on waves of soldiers, robots, bats and chunky bosses. The controls are straightforward, with virtual buttons that feel surprisingly tight and responsive, making it easy to chain punches, kicks, throws and weapon attacks. Occasional mis-taps can happen in hectic scenes, but overall combat feels satisfyingly weighty and precise.
The new multiplayer mode is the standout addition. Cooperative online play turns the game into a chaotic beat‑’em‑up party, echoing couch co-op classics. Whether you’re teaming up with a friend or matching with a random partner, double-team combos and shared screens full of enemies make every run more entertaining, especially during boss battles.
Content-wise, Dan the Man is impressively generous. Campaign Mode offers a tongue‑in‑cheek story filled with gags and quick-fire cutscenes, while Endless Survival focuses on high-score chasing and reflex testing. Adventure Mode adds bite-sized challenge stages and unlockable skins, giving completionists plenty to chase.
The pixel-art visuals are crisp and expressive, with stylish animations and exaggerated enemy designs that keep the action readable even when the screen is crowded. A bouncy, retro-inspired soundtrack rounds out the arcade vibe.
Monetization leans on optional in-app purchases and ads. You can unlock upgrades, new moves and weapons through regular play, but some players may feel the coin grind, especially after the early hours. Still, the generous variety of modes and the excellent co-op action make Dan the Man a must-try for fans of retro platformers and arcade brawlers.
