Shout to jump and whisper to run in Scream Go Hero

Scream Go Hero turns the classic platformer on its head by replacing buttons with your voice, and the result is as ridiculous as it is entertaining. Instead of tapping to move and jump, you speak, hum or shout into the microphone: soft sounds make your character walk, louder noises launch it into the air. It’s a wonderfully silly idea that quickly becomes a frantic, skill-based challenge.

Levels are made up of minimalist black-and-white platforms, spikes and gaps, so the focus is entirely on timing and vocal control. The character auto-moves only when you generate enough sound, forcing you to modulate your voice to land precise jumps. A tiny change in volume can mean the difference between gliding gracefully to the next ledge or plummeting into a pit.

Where Scream Go Hero truly shines is as a party game. Passing the device around and watching friends try to keep a straight face while squeaking, singing or yelling to survive is consistently hilarious. It’s a great icebreaker, though probably less suitable if you share thin walls with grumpy neighbors.

The game is deliberately simple: quick sessions, instant restarts and no complicated story. That also means it can feel repetitive after a while, and background noise can sometimes interfere with the microphone’s recognition if you’re not in a reasonably quiet room. Fine-tuning the way you use your voice takes practice, and some players may find the constant shouting tiring.

Still, as a quirky, pick-up-and-play experience, Scream Go Hero delivers exactly what it promises: a noisy, chaotic, and surprisingly challenging adventure driven entirely by your vocal chords.
