State of Survival
Deep strategy and tense survival in a polished zombie world
State of Survival mixes base-building strategy, RPG progression, and light tower-defense shooting into a surprisingly addictive package. Set six months after a devastating zombie outbreak, it puts you in charge of a small settlement trying to claw its way back from the brink of extinction.
Moment-to-moment play revolves around developing your settlement: constructing and upgrading buildings, managing resources, and training troops. The city-building layer is familiar but satisfying, with clear upgrade paths and a steady sense of growth. On top of that sits an RPG element focused on collectible “heroes,” each with unique abilities that shine during combat missions.
Battles are split between story-driven stages and special defense scenarios. In the former, you guide a squad of heroes through short levels, activating skills at key moments. In the latter, you place heroes to fend off waves of zombies, leaning into a tower-defense feel. Neither system is ultra-deep, but both are engaging enough to keep you pushing through chapters and events.
Social play is a big draw. Alliances matter: joining an active group unlocks cooperative research, joint attacks, and large-scale wars against other players. This adds a layer of diplomacy and rivalry that keeps the late game lively, particularly for competitive players who enjoy coordinated events.
Presentation is strong, with detailed character art, atmospheric sound, and smooth performance even when the screen fills with enemies. However, the game leans heavily on timers and in-game purchases. Progress is possible without paying, but high-level upgrades and top-tier heroes can feel slow to obtain unless you invest money or play very consistently.
For fans of zombie fiction and long-term strategy grinds, State of Survival offers a rich, content-packed world, provided you are comfortable with its free-to-play monetization model.
