Rise of Kingdoms is a sprawling real-time strategy game that combines city building, exploration, and massive PvP warfare on a single, persistent world map. It stands out for its impressive variety of civilizations and its dynamic, always-on battles.

You start as the leader of one of 15 historical civilizations, each with distinctive architecture, special units, and unique bonuses. The recently added Maya civilization brings fresh flavor, with lore rooted in the Popol Vuh and a focus on celestial wisdom and the power of Kukulkan. Choosing the right civilization genuinely shapes your playstyle, whether you prefer economic growth, fast expansion, or aggressive warfare.

The heart of the experience lies in the real-time battles. Armies move seamlessly across the world, and you can join or withdraw from fights on the fly. This creates exciting moments, like racing to reinforce an ally under siege or flanking an enemy who overextends. The infinite zoom map is particularly impressive, letting you glide from a global overview down to individual cities and barbarian camps without loading screens.

Exploration also plays a key role. The world begins shrouded in fog, encouraging you to scout, uncover hidden resources, and discover neutral tribes or mysterious structures.
