The app gives you access to official nautical charts from NOAA for U.S. waters and LINZ for New Zealand, including modern Electronic Navigational Charts and classic paper-style views. Switching between day, dusk, and night color schemes makes chart reading comfortable in bright sun or under red cabin lights, and the map rendering is crisp and fast.

Route planning is intuitive: tap and hold to drop waypoints and Marine Ways instantly shows distance and bearing for each leg. A dedicated Route Leg Summary view lists all segments with start and end coordinates, which is extremely helpful for pre-trip planning or logging past voyages. Once underway, Travel Mode keeps the screen centered on your GPS position so you can see at a glance how closely you’re tracking your planned course.

What really elevates Marine Ways is the live data plotted directly onto the charts. Buoy markers can be tapped for detailed conditions and wave reports, and obstruction icons reveal information about submerged hazards like rocks or wrecks, adding an extra layer of situational awareness.
