Identity V
Asymmetrical horror multiplayer with style and strategic depth
Identity V takes the 1 vs 4 asymmetrical formula and wraps it in a wonderfully eerie gothic package. You’re dropped into a Victorian-era mystery as a detective investigating a forsaken manor, and each match plays out like a twisted chapter of that story.
The core mode pits four Survivors against a single Hunter. As a Survivor, your job is to decode cipher machines, avoid detection and coordinate with teammates to pull off daring rescues and escapes. As a Hunter, you stalk the map using unique powers to track, chase and disable your prey. Both sides feel distinct, and swapping roles keeps the experience fresh.
What really sells Identity V is its atmosphere. The stylized, slightly caricatured visuals give it a Tim Burton-esque feel, balancing horror and dark whimsy rather than relying on gore. Maps are gloomy yet readable, with randomized layouts each match so you cannot simply memorize optimal routes.
Character variety is a major strength. Survivors and Hunters each come with different abilities, traits and playstyles, encouraging experimentation and team synergy. The progression system and plentiful cosmetics mean there’s always something new to unlock, though the monetization can feel a bit pushy if you want specific skins.
Matches are short but tense, with tight chases, clutch rescues and last-second escapes. Controls are generally responsive, though the learning curve—especially for Hunters—can be steep, and occasional balance quirks between characters are noticeable.
Despite those rough edges, Identity V delivers a compelling blend of horror, strategy and multiplayer mind games. If you enjoy cat-and-mouse gameplay with a strong theme and room for skillful plays, this is an easy recommendation.
