Monster Hunter Now
Hunt colossal beasts in fast real world battles anywhere
Monster Hunter Now brings Capcom’s adored series into your everyday surroundings, transforming your neighborhood into a hunting ground filled with familiar wyverns and towering creatures. Developed by Niantic, it blends real-world exploration with streamlined Monster Hunter combat, aiming for quick and satisfying sessions.
Hunts are designed to last around 75 seconds, which makes encounters feel snappy yet surprisingly tactical. You dodge, guard, and unleash combos using simple tap and swipe controls, then craft and upgrade weapons and armor from your spoils. Fans will recognize weapon types like Great Sword, Bow, and Dual Blades, each with distinct timing and skills, even if the move sets are more compact than in the main series.
Location matters: different habitats such as Forest, Desert, and Swamp determine which monsters appear, encouraging you to explore new areas. The AR Camera adds an extra layer of immersion by placing monsters directly into your environment for fun photo opportunities, though it’s more of a novelty than a core feature.
One of the smartest ideas is Adventure Sync and Paintballs. You can mark monsters while walking with your phone in your pocket, or let your Palico automatically tag them, then tackle those marked beasts later when you have time to play. This helps balance the game for busy players who can’t constantly stare at their screen.
On the downside, sessions can eventually feel repetitive, especially if you’re grinding materials for specific gear. Monetization and energy-style limitations might also frustrate long-time hunters hoping for marathon play sessions. Still, Monster Hunter Now is a polished, accessible introduction to the franchise’s thrill of the hunt, best suited for short, regular bursts of outdoor play.
