Secure remote access with smart automatic VPN protection

GlobalProtect is a business-focused VPN client designed to extend your company’s security perimeter to wherever you work. Instead of a simple “on/off” tunnel, it plugs directly into Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls, giving remote users the same policies and protection they would have inside the office.

The standout feature is its flexibility. Administrators can configure Always-On VPN for tightly controlled devices, standard Remote Access VPN for typical home working, or Per App VPN for BYOD scenarios where only specific business apps go through the tunnel. This last mode is especially useful for separating personal and corporate traffic, preserving privacy while keeping sensitive data locked down.

GlobalProtect automatically discovers and connects to the best available gateway, so you rarely have to think about which region or site to use. It supports both IPSec and SSL, integrates with MDM solutions for central provisioning, and works with a wide range of authentication methods, including AD/RADIUS, SAML-based two-factor authentication, LDAP, and client certificates. Support for changing expired passwords directly through the client is a welcome touch for remote workers.

The interface is functional rather than pretty, focused on clarity over slick design. Once set up by IT, day-to-day use is mostly hands-off: connect, authenticate, and get to work. Performance is generally solid, though, as with any enterprise VPN, speed and stability will heavily depend on your company’s firewall setup and network quality. Some users may notice increased battery and data usage when Always-On mode is enforced.

GlobalProtect is not aimed at casual users looking for privacy while streaming or browsing; it is a corporate security tool that requires a properly licensed Palo Alto Networks infrastructure. For organizations already invested in that ecosystem, it delivers a cohesive, secure, and centrally managed remote access experience.
