Tourney of Warriors
Epic side scrolling battles with bosses across three worlds
Tourney of Warriors is an old‑school action platformer that focuses on fast reactions, boss showdowns, and a touch of transformation flair. Spread across three distinct worlds and 20 handcrafted stages, it offers a compact but surprisingly intense gauntlet of enemies, traps, and screen‑filling bosses.
Gameplay is straightforward and deliberately arcade‑like. You move with a virtual d-pad on the left, while four buttons on the right handle jumping, flying, and unleashing different attacks. Each planet culminates in bosses with unique abilities, forcing you to rethink your approach rather than just spamming the same attack pattern. As you progress, the difficulty ramps up sharply, with denser waves of projectiles and tighter platforming sections demanding precise timing.
The “super ultra transformation” concept is the game’s main hook. As you fight, you build up power that lets your warrior shift into a stronger form, boosting damage and mobility for a short window. Triggering this at the right moment—typically just before a boss’s more punishing phase—adds a welcome layer of strategy to what would otherwise be a very simple shooter-platformer.
Visually, Tourney of Warriors goes for a retro, colorful style. Environments are clearly differentiated between worlds, and enemy designs do enough to stand out even if they’re not particularly detailed. Sound effects are punchy, though the soundtrack can feel repetitive over longer sessions.
On the downside, the virtual buttons are quite small, and in hectic levels it’s easy to miss inputs, especially when trying to fly and attack at the same time. The difficulty spikes may also frustrate players looking for a more relaxed experience.
If you enjoy short, challenging side‑scrollers with boss-heavy stages and don’t mind basic presentation, Tourney of Warriors offers a compact, arcade-style blast of action.
