Twilight
Gentle screen dimming that helps you wind down at night
Twilight is a thoughtfully designed screen filter that tackles one of the biggest modern sleep disruptors: blue light from glowing displays. Instead of simply dimming the brightness, it overlays a warm, reddish tint that gradually intensifies as the sun goes down, helping your body maintain a more natural sleep rhythm.
The app’s core strength lies in its automation. Using your location, Twilight syncs its filter to local sunset and sunrise times, so you never have to remember to switch it on. For late-night reading or doomscrolling, the effect is immediate and noticeable: the glare softens, whites turn amber, and your eyes relax almost instantly. You can fine-tune color temperature, intensity, and screen dim level, or create custom profiles for evening, night, and early morning.
Twilight also supports Wear OS, extending its soothing filter to your smartwatch, which is especially handy if you tend to glance at your wrist in the middle of the night. Despite the persistent overlay, performance impact is minimal and battery usage is modest, even on older devices.
There are a few trade-offs. Colors become less accurate, so photo editing and color-sensitive tasks are better done with the filter paused. Some secure apps that block screen overlays may require you to temporarily disable Twilight, which can be slightly inconvenient.
Still, as a lightweight tool aimed at healthier device habits and more comfortable night use, Twilight delivers exactly what it promises. If you often use your screen in bed or in dim environments, this is one of the most effective and unobtrusive ways to protect your eyes and support better sleep.
