Video quality is a strong point. With a 111° wide‑angle lens and 720p HD resolution, the feed is sharp enough to recognize faces and details, especially when you use the 4x digital zoom. Colors are generally accurate in daylight, and low‑light performance is respectable for this camera range. The app makes panning around the scene feel intuitive: gyroscope support lets you tilt your phone to “look around,” which is surprisingly natural once you get used to it.

Two‑way audio is another highlight. The built‑in microphone and speaker on supported cameras deliver loud and clear voice transmission, making quick chats with family members or checking in on pets simple and responsive. Motion detection works reliably, sending push notifications that include when and where movement occurred, so you can quickly decide if it’s something important.

Local recording to a microSD card (up to 32 GB) is supported, which is welcome for anyone who doesn’t want to rely solely on cloud services. However, advanced features and cloud storage may require subscriptions, and occasional connection drops or delays can occur, particularly on weaker networks.

One important caveat: YI IoT only supports the International Version of Yi IoT cameras. Users with China‑specific YUNYI models will need a different companion app.
