BeatX
Arcade perfect rhythm action with endless custom songs
BeatX is a feature-packed rhythm game that feels like carrying an entire dance arcade in your pocket. If you grew up with DDR or StepMania, this is one of the closest experiences you can get, complete with advanced chart gimmicks and authentic scoring.
Gameplay is classic arrow‑matching: tap, slide or step in time with the music to build combos and chase high scores. What sets BeatX apart is its huge flexibility. It supports .sm, .smzip and .dwi files, including tricky elements like stops, BPM changes, mines, fakes and even negative BPM tricks, so most community‑made charts work exactly as intended.
The built‑in song catalog is already huge, with access to over 100,000 free levels in the download section, but the real power lies in loading your own StepMania or DDR songs. If you have a collection of charts, BeatX turns it into a portable library. It also supports DDRMax3 and ITG‑style percentage scoring, which rhythm veterans will appreciate.
Control options are excellent: you can play on the touchscreen or hook up a dance mat, keyboard or joystick via USB OTG or Bluetooth. There’s single play, full double mode and versus splitscreen multiplayer, making it ideal for living‑room battles, especially on devices connected to a big screen or Shield‑style hardware.
Presentation is functional rather than flashy, but highly customizable. You can add announcer packs, background videos and custom note skins, and the game runs smoothly in full HD in both portrait and landscape orientations.
The interface can feel a bit dense for newcomers, and managing custom song packs requires some basic file‑handling knowledge. Still, for rhythm game fans who want depth, precision and near‑limitless content, BeatX is a remarkably robust and faithful experience.
